2020 Double Demerits Dates for WA*
Below are the dates for Double Demerits for 2020:
Australia Day
Friday 24 January to Monday 27 January inclusive
Labour Day
Friday 28 February to Monday 2 March inclusive
Easter
Thursday 9 April to Monday 13 April inclusive
Anzac Day
Friday 24 April to Monday 27 April Inclusive
Western Australia Day
Friday 29 May to Monday 1 June inclusive
Queen’s Birthday
Friday 25 September to Monday 28 September inclusive
2020/2021 Christmas and New Year
Friday 18th December 2020 to Sunday 3rd January 2021 inclusive

During Holiday Periods and Long Weekends, the Following Offences are Subject to Double Demerits:
- Drink or drug driving
- Failing to wear a seatbelt and child restraint
- Running a red light
- Illegal use of a mobile phone while driving
- Speeding
- Drive a motor vehicle fitted with a device designed to evade detection by a speed camera (14 points during double demerits period)
- Drive a motor vehicle in a manner to evade detection by a speed camera (14 points during double demerits period)
The aim of the initiative is to encourage safe driving on long weekends and public holidays.
Christmas – New Year period
We saw last year’s double demerit system implemented from before Christmas right through to 11:59 pm on the 5th of January. So this year won’t be any different.
The goal of this extended double demerit period is to ensure all road users make it home safely to their loved ones.
Demerit Points Check
You can check your demerit point status on the Department of Transport website.
You will need your Driver’s Licence Number, Date of Birth and Licence Expiry Date to complete the status check.
