4WD Track Etiquette

A team of 4WD vehicles/trucks travelling as a convoy in an off-road track.
A simple rule that thankfully the majority of responsible off-roaders adhere to without a second thought. It takes nothing to be thoughtful of others off road but for some, unfortunately, it is either a case of ignorance that can be tolerated or complete disregard to anyone but themselves which cannot be tolerated.

Eureka 4WD Training has been operating under government licence in local area’s for the past 27 years delivering responsible and sustainable 4WD training and track etiquette has always been a high priority within our courses and training methods.

Basics of 4WD Track Etiquette

  • Headlights on
  • Hi-Visibility flag in low vision areas
  • Treat every corner or crest as a vehicle coming in the other direction
  • The largest amount of vehicles have right of way in single-lane tracks
  • First vehicle (Trip leader) to stop and inform oncoming vehicles of the number of vehicles behind and make/model of the last vehicle
  • Trip leader to advise the last vehicle ( Tail end charlie) of the number of vehicles pulled over
  • Tail end to let those pulled over they are the last vehicle and inform trip leader once past

Always slow down on approaching others using beach areas as children are unpredictable and are often preoccupied. If correct tyre pressures and gear selection is used there is no excuse to speed past other beach users.

On the other hand, don’t park up and/or camp in a position that makes other track users use dangerous or unnecessary manoeuvres to avoid you.
Don’t bother other track users, it’s pretty simple for most.
